New meeting venue?
Oct 30 2010, 12:48 AM EDT | Post edited: Oct 30 2010, 12:48 AM EDT
With S St Paul doing some big budget cuts we may be having to look for a new meeting venue. Should we be proactive and look for a new place now or sit tight and wait to see what transpires? In about 2 weeks we have our Nov meeting. Give it some thought. Do you find this valuable?

That would be a good idea. It will take a while to identify some alternatives. Since I've got everyone's address and driving range preferences I could try to plot out an "ideal" central location.

BTW, I'm going to miss the November meeting due to my daughter's starring role as Cinderella in the 7th grade play. We can continue the show discussions via email and set up a pre-meeting meeting for December.

I can relay relevant findings from TCAH, as they are affected as well. As the TCAH Treasurer informed us, when he dropped off the check and schedule for the meeting space, no mention was made of any issue. But then again, since the clubs are not "tenants" with leases for the space, they were not invited to the meeting held regarding the future of the airport operations. Maybe someone has the relevant cable local government access to view a repeat of the SSP council meeting vis-a-vis Fleming Field. Do you find this valuable?

I'm sure this while take a while to shake out as the new players figure out what Glen did and policies and procedures and tenants and folks like MMFS and TCAH. But eventually someone will ask "Only $100 a year? Why not charge them $50 a month?"

Chip has talked to Glenn at Fleming and Glenn does not foresee any near term changes, but said it would be good to send our rental check right away so we're set for 2011 and on the facility calendar.

I did plot out the members on a map and determined that a central location for those in the farthest outlying areas (Shakopee, Prior Lake, **** Rapid, Lake Elmo, Cottage Grove, Burnsville) would be just south of downtown Minneapolis. This would be a 15 to 16 mile drive for those living in those areas. The arcs basically converge around the MSP airport for those on the south side; Hwy 100 and 394 for the north west; and I94 and 280 on the north east.

If we needed to look for new space, the Ft Snelling Museum would be worth checking out or anything along 494 and near the airport/MoA. I'm not familiar with the northern parts of town, maybe there are VFW posts in those areas?

Tim
