Hey, I won the Tristar Pz IVD in the raffle, it was started, but the main problem is the instructions were missing. I could probably build it without, , I do have some experience, but those kits are intricate, and instructions would make it easier, so could someone come up with a set, or xerox one?
TIA Merrill

Took up the offer to display some models at Village Games in Anoka. What a drive for me. Met Dan Hobot one of the co-owners and he was really excited to display work from the members. I asked him if we could promote the club along with displaying the models and he seemed that would be an OK deal. He is also looking for modelers to do commissioned work using what he can get at the store. Seemed he wanted to promote store credit but was open to paying for the work. He eventually wanted to give the commissioned pieces away as prizes for contests and such. He also wanted to promote the store for events and a place to paint or give modeling demos.Small gaming shop and Dan was a very pleasant person. Could be a good promotion for the club and members. The website is wwwVillageGames, net. Phone is 763-506-0303.

With S St Paul doing some big budget cuts we may be having to look for a new meeting venue. Should we be proactive and look for a new place now or sit tight and wait to see what transpires? In about 2 weeks we have our Nov meeting. Give it some thought.

I was very glad to see that the MMFS was very well represented at this years Nordic Con. Looking over the entries in the armor and figure catagories (yes, I did check out the aircraft as well), I feel very confident the entrants did well. Can't wait to hear all about it at the next MMFS meeting. Bring your entries to show and tell us how you did it. See you then. I can't believe I didn't drop a bundle in the vendors rooms!!!

Ken Swedberg, Pearl Harbor Navy man
Ken Swedberg's claim to fame was being on the USS Ward when it fired the first American shots in World War II. It sank a Japanese mini-sub in the mouth of Pearl Harbor. Swedberg, 89, was president of the First Shot Naval Veterans when he died July 11 of lung cancer in a Maplewood hospital. Only about a dozen of the 84 men on the USS Ward the morning of Dec. 7, 1941, are still alive. They were part of the 47th Division of the Naval Reserve from St. Paul. Their destroyer was patrolling the mouth of Pearl Harbor that Sunday morning and sank the sub an hour before the sneak air attack that killed 2,000 U.S. servicemen. The two-torpedo sub and four others like it planned to fire at U.S. ships in the harbor. But doubt about the sinking lingered for 60 years until the mini-sub was found in August 2002. University of Hawaii researchers recorded an underwater video that showed a hole in the sub's conning tower, right where Swedberg and other Ward crew members saw it hit. Swedberg was a fireman whose primary job was to keep the Ward's steam boilers cooking to power the ship. But he was on deck that morning manning a flare gun. He told Thill he saw the sub surface about 150 feet away shortly before 7 a.m. The Ward's first shot missed. But the second, 4-inch shell sent the secret sub to the bottom, said Thill, a gunner. Just over an hour later chaos reigned as hundreds of Japanese planes flew overhead, attacking the naval base at Pearl Harbor and nearby air bases. Swedberg was dedicated to preserving the memory of the Ward's role in the Pearl Harbor attack that drew the United States into the war, said Ken Bodin, his son-in-law. He gave talks to veterans clubs and helped bring the 16-foot-long cannon that sank the sub to the Veterans Services Building on the Minnesota State Capitol grounds, Bodin said. As a long time member of the MMFS I'm thrilled with the turnout over the last six months. There was a time back in the mid 90s when we were lucky to have 6 people show up. With so many coming now I guess I would like to ask what others deem as important for the meetings? Business only? Show & Tell? Demos/presentations? Also considering the 'Figure' in our title, how relevant now are the figure part to our club? If it is still strong is there any interest in sponsoring Shep Paine and his figure painting seminar one last time before he retires?

Do members of the club and site feel this website should have an 'in progress' page? Sort of like on track-link.net where Paul has BLOGs (building logs) and a construction forum that modelers can post in progress photos. Would this be helpful for other modelers? Could the web site handle it? Would there be need for monitoring?
