JulyAttendance:
Mark, Merrill, Chip, Winston, Bernie, Gary, Ed, Sean, Chris, Curtis, Larry, all three Scotts, Mike, both Dons, and Kyle were present at the July meeting.
We also had a visitor named Michael D. Michael is just getting into the hobby and is currently interested in aircraft. Welcome, Michael!
New Biz:
-Because of the rapid growth of the club in recent months, Merrill suggested that we nominate club officers to keep the meetings from getting out of hand. The vote passed unanimously, and nominations for the officer positions were quickly made:
President:
-Merrill Anderson
Vice President/Sergeant At Arms
-Bernie Kugel
Treasurer:
-Chip Childs
Secretary:
-Kyle Nelson
After his nomination as President, Merrill was heard to mutter something about "Ein Volk, ein Seig, ein Fuhrer." There were no other nominations this month.
-Mike pointed out that the club has drifted away from holding monthly seminars. The club agreed that these demonstrations are helpful, however nobody signed up to do a demo. If you would like to share a skill or technique with the club, talk to Kyle Nelson or Mike Bedard.
-Don Haney brought up several new ideas on how the MMFS could attract some new members from the wargaming community. He called it "cross-pollenation"... I'm not sure what this implies. We agreed that posting brochures in wargaming stores like Tower or the Source would help bring in new faces.
Old Biz:
-Bernie reminded us that this year's Nordic-Con will be held on Saturday, September 26th. The volunteers meeting will be held at Fleming Field on Friday, July 29th.
The next MMFS meeting will be held on Friday, August 13th at 7:00 PM in the Fleming Field meeting room.
Happy modeling!
-Kyle Nelson
April Okay, I've been pretty behind on the newsletters. For those of you wondering,
yes, the club still exists.
| Attendence: Scott, Scott, Scott, (Great Scott!) Winston, Ed, Tim, Nael, Bob, Gary, Dave, Mark, Merril, Jacques, Sean, Jim, Mike, Don, Rick, Chris, Chip, Kyle, and our newest member, Gary. The annual militaria show at the State Fairgrounds was held on April 14th, and we had a few tables there to display our work. The show ran on April 14th and 15th. Treasurer's Report: Chip's treasury report shows that we have $218.97 in the bank. We had a fair number of members at the 2010 AMPS National Convention in Auburn, Indiana. We even had Rick Ruble and his son, Nick, in the local newspaper to support the event. Don's 38(t) was also photographed during the judging process! You can see the article here: |
Also, to help promote our upcoming show, there will be some cameras from several news orginizations at our meeting. Be sure to bring plenty of models!
Until next month,
-Kyle Nelson
January/February
Attendance:

In February, Jacques, Dave, Chris, both Scotts, both Mikes, Tim, Merrill, Bob, Bernie, Don, Neal, Wayne, and myself were present. The club welcomed new member Scott Andring.
Treasurer's Report:
In February, Chip reported $339.47 in the bank account.
Old Biz:
-The Zumbro Valley Scale Modeler's annual "Hope it don't snow" show went well, especially because it didn't snow. More than 300 models were displayed. The general consensus was that the new venue was a grand slam, but the lighting was dimmer than anticipated. Winston informed us that the lighting was changed since the last time the ZVSM scouted the location.
New Biz:
-Kyle finished handing out the wooden bases for the AMPS Nationals club build. If you would like an extra or replacement, talk to him at the March meeting. He promises he won't be too offended.
-Likely AMPS attendees are Jacques, Sean, Dave, Kyle, Don, Tim, and Winston. Tim encouraged those who are going to take the judges training and a session or two judging so we will be better prepared for our show in May.
Show Biz:-The Boots 'n Treads show is fast approaching! To brush up on our AMPS judging skills, Tim kindly gave a presentation on the basics of judging scale models. We practiced on Mike's gorgeous T-44, Jacques' T-72, Mark's Land Rover, Winston's Spitfire, and Kyle's Russkie Churchill. (By the way, whoever wrote "Go Rushia" on Kyle's sheet needs to brush up on their spelling. That means you, Jacques.)
-Winston has contacted vendors, but we still have no solid commitments. Several vendors have shown interest, however.
-Tim has placed show announcements on various model websites and calendars.
-Dave is working on contacting the Ft. Snelling museum to check on the availability of the M3 Half-track.
-Chip will discuss the possibility of having a Boy Scout troop provide food and beverages.
-Tim suggested the theme of saluting Minnesota's veterans be opened to models of ships and aircraft, but the consensus was that we would get a large enough turnout without expanding the eligible models. Show attendees will vote to award a People's Choice prize to a theme model.
Next Month
Friday, March 12.Same time, same place: Fleming Field, 7:30-ish. Nobody has signed up for a demo, so please, surprise us! Hope to see you there.
